Tiki Cocktail Spirits: Crystal Head Vodka, a very cool spirit for your tiki bar.

Learn all about the new Crystal Head Vodka.
Bring some voodoo to your tiki bar.

Right away we have to tell you, the co-founder of Crystal Head Vodka is the actor and SNL star Dan Aykroyd. This alone for me made the purchase a must. Well that and the really cool clear skull bottle. I have always had a fondness for skulls. And it does look fantastic on the shelf of the tiki bar I must say.

It is definitely a conversation starter. People always ask me about it when they see it at the tiki bar.
I will keep the bottle after the vodka is gone.

Crystal Head Vodka

Crystal Head Vodka is manufactured by Diamond Estates Wines and Spirits Ltd. Located both in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

The main aspect of this vodka is that it is quadruple-distilled, triple-filtered through charcoal and get this, triple-filtered through Herkimer diamond crystals.

The clear skull bottle is made by Bruni Glass and is packed nice in a rigid cardboard box and a wooden bottle closure for extra protection.

Overall, the vodka has a very smooth taste, from the major distillation process mentioned above. It also has hints of a little bit of licorice at the end.

As a added bonus, it looks real cool if back lite with colored lights.

All in all you gotta try it with your favorite vodka based tiki concoction.

For tiki bars to keep relevant and evolving we must think out of the rum box, and embrace the new era of vodkas and tequilas.

Tiki spirits: CHERRY HEERING, The Original Cherry Brandy.

Tiki Spirits: A closer look at Cherry Heering, a cherry brandy liquer.
Used in quite a few tiki and tropical cocktails, so a closer look is in order.

OVERVIEW / HISTORY
Of Danish origin, born in Denmark in 1818.
Invented by Peter Heering.
The recipe for Cherry Heering Brandy is a closely guarded family secret,
handed down for generations. It is thought to be the original
cherry brandy. They use a certain variety of cherry known as
the dark stevens cherry, that grows in certain parts of Denmark.

Sometimes it is simply called "Heering".
It is aged for 3-5 years before being bottled.
It has a black cherry flavor, that is not too sweet.
Herbal undertones are also present.
It has a darker red color.
It has a smooth full flavor.

TIKI COCKTAIL SPIRITS:
Cointreau, a closer look.

Cointreau is one of the most popular liqueurs and is used in a great number of tiki cocktail drink recipes. It is the finest version of a Curacao. Cointreau is a form of Curacao, which means in essence, it is a Brandy based spirit. The Brandy is infused with herbs and orange rinds for a citrus flavor with herbal undertones. A large number of vintage tiki cocktails call for this spirit in there recipes.

HISTORY

It was first marketed in 1849 by the Cointreau family.  Cointreau was first called Triple Sec White Curacao, until others strated copying the name, so the family changed  it to Cointreau as we know it today.
