Tiki Spirits: Cointreau, a closer look at a classic cocktail spirit.

TIKI COCKTAIL SPIRITS:
Cointreau, a closer look.

Cointreau is one of the most popular liqueurs and is used in a great number of tiki cocktail drink recipes. It is the finest version of a Curacao. Cointreau is a form of Curacao, which means in essence, it is a Brandy based spirit. The Brandy is infused with herbs and orange rinds for a citrus flavor with herbal undertones. A large number of vintage tiki cocktails call for this spirit in there recipes.

HISTORY

It was first marketed in 1849 by the Cointreau family.  Cointreau was first called Triple Sec White Curacao, until others strated copying the name, so the family changed  it to Cointreau as we know it today.

HOW TO SERVE

1. Many people enjoy it simply on the rocks.

2. With Rum and fruit juices.

3. With Vodka.

4. With Tequila.

MIXES WELL WITH:
Pretty much anything but whiskey. This stuff blends so well with all the  main cocktail spirits and tiki mixes.
